To All Piano Educators:

It is with tremendous enthusiasm that I endorse Sylvia Shadick-Taylor as a piano clinician. Sylvia’s approach to teaching piano repertoire is inspirational for students and music educators alike.

During the week of July 23, 2007 Sylvia was the piano clinician for our “WE PERFORM THIS FRIDAY” program, a 5-day intensive piano performance camp that exposed participants to “the life of a professional concert pianist” with the goal of preparing for their own piano solo and duet recital on the final day of activities.

The camp participants ranged in age from 8 to 20 years and Grade 1 to 8 Royal Conservatory of Music skill levels. Sylvia was able to connect with each of the participants individually and as a group. All of the participants maintained enthusiastic commitment to learning and polishing their assigned pieces throughout the week and eagerly embraced new approaches to music making. Participants also remained respectful and supportive of one another regardless of age or ability.

The participants performed for the residents and staff of Millwoods Shepherd’s Care Centre on Friday, July 27, 2007 where they were warmly received and praised for their polished presentation. Not only did the “campers” participate in individual lessons and performance master classes during the week’s activities, they were also instructed on performance etiquette and produced a concert program complete with their own biographies and program notes on the works being presented.

“WE PERFORM THIS FRIDAY” participants and myself would love to have Sylvia back for more innovative instruction!

Most sincerely,
